Aptly named, the Mold Medic is a compact, lightweight precision welding system that can be used to repair damaged molds on the workbench or onsite without removing them from the molding machine. Using a CPU control system and resistance welding technology, this unit generates a series of high-energy, short-cycle electrical discharges to fuse strip material, metal powder, or metal paste onto the damaged area. It reportedly produces a strong, homogeneous weld, and the short duration of the current discharge results in precision repairs to areas involving sharp edges or mirror finishes, without the risk of damage caused by heat, stress, or metal distortion.
It is suitable for repairing parting lines, wear flaws, worn slides, core pins, mold edges, and scratches. It is also suitable for repairing sags and pinholes that result from Argon, TIG, or laser welding processes. The 25-kg welder requires no specialized training to use, and emits no harmful welding fumes or toxic gases.
