The expansion at Thai Polyacetal (TPAC; Bangkok). will take place in two phases: an existing 55,000-tonnes/year plant will be debottlenecked to 60,000 tonnes/year while a new 40,000-tonnes/year production unit will be constructed. Construction will start this year and completion is targeted in early 2013. Commercial production will follow in the middle of the year.
POM is used widely in Thailand and elsewhere in Asia in automotive and electronics components and demand is trending strongly. MGC forecasts that global demand will grow at 5-6% per annum.
TPAC is a joint venture of MGC (70% stake) and TOA Dovechem Industries (30% stake). Output from the plant is marketed by Mitsubishi Engineering-Plastics (Tokyo).
