In its third year of partnership with Project Lead the Way (PLTW; www.pltw.org), a not-for-profit organization that promotes pre-engineering courses and technologies for middle and high school students, the Dimension 3D Printing Group, a business unit of Stratasys Inc. (Minneapolis, MN), announced that it has given more than $400,000 to schools across the nation to underwrite the purchase of 3D printing systems for the 2008-09 school year.

State PLTW leaders nominated up to two schools that had to meet specific criteria, including showing that they could not afford printing systems without the grant and that the school’s PLTW program would convey great benefit with the addition of 3D printing technology. More than 40 schools received the $10,000 grants, and a complete list of the schools is available at www.dimensionprinting.com.

“These generous Dimension grants are a giant leap forward in advancing PLTW’s mission of encouraging the pursuit of design and engineering careers by providing students in more than 40 states with an essential design education technology,” says Tom White, director of technology for PLTW. “This significant gift and our continued partnership with Dimension have played an important role in preparing future engineers and designers for successful careers in design related fields.”

PLTW has formed partnerships with higher education institutions, public schools, and the private sector, with programs offered in more than 3000 schools in 50 states and the District of Columbia.—[email protected]
