Blowmolding machine manufacturer launches purging compound

Extrusion blowmolding machine maker Kautex Maschinenbau GmbH has developed a purging compound it says boosts production output as well as product quality. In application, Kautex Purge is fed into the extruder barrel as regular material would be and, depending on the type of residue, plasticized at temperatures ranging from 180°-300°C, with the purging compound pellets softening, expanding, and cleaning the machine’s screw, barrel, and head.

After 20-25 minutes of soaking, residue, burnt material, and other contaminants can be pushed out of the machine, along with the compound. If streaks, black specs, or other residue continue to contaminate parts, the process can be repeated at an elevated temperature.

The company says that unlike other means of machine cleaning, Kautex Purge does not cause any increased wear on machine components, with the purging compound treating metal surfaces gently. Kautex says the useful life of the equipment is maintained, while maintenance costs and time are lowered, with the additional benefit that the compound can be recycled and reused. Kautex says the purging compound is non-toxic and does not cause any environmental or health hazards, so that for instance it does not have to be declared as a hazardous substance during transportation.— [email protected]
