Arburg springs an electric surprise at Technology Days 2016

This year, on the eve of its annual Technology Days event, German injection press manufacturer Arburg threw a party for some 550 invited guests, to celebrate the opening of its new assembly hall 22 in grand, international style. The two-storey building, with a floor space of with18.600 m², easily accommodated all attendees, leaving plenty of room for a stage on which a festive program unfolded throughout the evening – with as climax the world premiere of the new electric Golden Electric machine series.

An electric machine at the price of a hydraulic one? Is it possible?

“Ten years ago, in February of 2006, we introduced the Golden Edition – an entry level hydraulic machine capable of handling 70-80% of all jobs,” said Arburg’s retiring Managing Director of Sales, Helmut Heinson. “It’s been – you might say – a success. Intended as an anniversary gift to our customers – we celebrated our 50th anniversary that year – the Golden Edition has proven to be an enduring hit. And now, 10 years later we’re introducing the Golden Electric machine series. The perfect machine for technical applications.”
And with that, he introduced the second “premiere” of the evening: his successor, Gerhard Böhm. Calling Böhm on stage, he passed the mantle of responsibility onto the new Managing Director of Sales to perform his first official task  - the presentation of the brand-new members of the Allrounder family, the Golden Electric series.

The Golden Electric Allrounders are designed to meet customer demand for high-performance entry-level machines for the precise, energy-efficient production of sophisticated molded parts. Thanks to the use of standardized components, the new machines offer an excellent price/performance ratio. The Golden Electric series is designed for standard applications in thermoplastic processing, such as technical injection molding, and like the Golden Edition, is able to handle 70-80% of all applications demanded by the market, emphasized Heinson. “The Golden Electric offers precision, energy economy and reproducibility at a low cost for standard applications,” added Böhm.

The new machines are available in the four 370, 470, 520 and 570 sizes with clamping forces of 600, 1,000, 1,500 and 2,000 kN. Fast and precise, the Golden Electric machines feature liquid-cooled motors and servo inverters and also offer benefits in terms of energy efficiency, short dry cycle times and high reproducibility. Compared to hydraulic standard machines, the high efficiency of the servo motors, continuous power adaptation and energy recovery during braking mean that up to 55 percent less energy is required. The machines are also easy to maintain, said Böhm, thanks to swiveling injection units, plug-in cylinder modules and further improved lubrication and cooling.

The Golden Electric is an impressive addition to Arburg’s "Golden product family". And, while in a “K” year, most companies in the plastics industry save their best innovations for the K Show, Arburg chose this house event to launch its newest Golden machine. So what does the company have up its sleeve for the K Show? Smiling and shaking his head, the only thing that Managing Partner Michael Hehl would say on the subject was: “There is a time and a place for everything. The Technology Days are the Technology Days, and the K is the K.”
