Sustainability and shelf appeal were clear trends among the Gold Award-winning packages in the 66th Annual Flexible Packaging Achievement Awards Competition. The Flexible Packaging Association (FPA) announced the winners at an awards ceremony held on March 23, 2022, in conjunction with FPA’s annual meeting in Bonita Springs, FL.

FPA reports that it received more entries than ever in this year’s competition — 325 entries for 100 packages (entrants were allowed to enter the same package in multiple categories). In all, 27 packages received 43 Achievement Awards.

This year’s judges included Martin Golden, packaging engineer/consultant and adjunct professor in the Rutgers University Packaging Program; Brian Ludwick, vice president, publisher, and brand director at Packaging Impressions; and Jim Peters, a marketing communications consultant and packaging-industry veteran.

The judges commented on sustainability as a theme among this year’s entrants and remarked on the prevalence of print excellence. Many of the Gold Award winners offer outstanding examples of both.
