ENGEL Austria (Schwertberg) will now be partnering with PMEfluidtech GmbH (Ettenheim, Germany) in client-specific solutions for water injection technology (WIT). Water injection technology is used in the production of hollow parts and long media lines in the injection molding process.

WIT employs the injection of water into a cavity partially filled with plastic melt to ensure even wall thickness and smooth internal surfaces, even in parts with complex geometries. ENGEL's  own WIT technology is known by the "watermelt" label. The process is also said to allow economical use of raw materials and short cycle times.

According to Michael Fischer, sales manager (Technologies) at ENGEL, the partnership with PMEfluidtech will allow the company to offer clients custom, state-of-the-art solutions.

"Water injection technology is a small but very interesting niche," Fischer said in a release. PMEfluidtech has been developing its own technology over the past 12 years using internal pressure technology, and is considered a pioneer in the field.

PMEfluidtech will be responsible for WIT systems and process and mold technology in addition to service for WIT units. ENGEL will adapt injection molding machines, automation, and peripheral units. The pair will both consult with customers regarding application-specific issues.
