Liquid silicone system enhances medical micromolding applications

Kuntz Mfg. Co. has released a new vertical liquid silicone injection molding machine. The LSR 2010 is well suited for insert and overmolding and other medical applications. The machine meets the requirements of micro-LSR molding applications with dependable shot size repeatability and flash-limited molding when using precision molds. The patented microinjection technology was originally developed for IOL (intraocular lens) manufacturing.

The LSR 2010 is nonhydraulic and not likely to cause contamination in cleanrooms or on products. Other features include a vertical injection unit and adaptation for standard molds up to 8 by 8 inches. The unit also offers standard platen mounting hole patterns and adjustable daylight in

1-inch increments to save mold processing time. The clamp can produce up to 10 tons of force, and no barrel screw is used, which reduces material waste. Automatic door opening provides easy part removal, decreasing cycle time. Material can be fed from cooled, prefilled disposable cartridges or via inline mix-metering equipment. The LSR 2010 will be displayed at MD&M West.
