Medical: Spectrum adds two Milacron machines

Medical-device manufacturer Spectrum Plastics Group (formerly Midwest Plastic Components; Minneapolis, MN) has installed two new injection molding machines, including a Cincinnati Milacron Magna V30-s and a Milacron-Fanuc Roboshot S-2000i55B. Spectrum cited new customers and the transfer of tools to its plant from existing customers as necessitating the molding capacity expansion. The Magna V Series is a 40-ton vertical machine, featuring rotary and shuttle tables that allow simultaneous operations, including pre-molding, injection, and post molding.

The 50-ton Roboshot S2000I-B press is an all-electric model that reportedly reduces energy consumption by 50-80% with repeatable and precise cycles that are 5-50% faster compared with hydraulic machines. Spectrum Plastics Group has five U.S. sites with capabilities in injection molding, rapid prototyping, and contract-manufacturing.
