TPEs aid medical, tubing products

The Star Thermoplastics Div. of Star Thermoplastic Alloys & Rubbers Inc., a compounder of thermoplastic elastomers (TPEs), has launched a line of Mediflex compounds for medical product and tubing applications. Mediflex is available in very soft to very hard grades, from 8 Shore A to 60 Shore D, for a variety of applications. For tubing uses, grades are designed to replace latex. All materials are medical and FDA grade. Benefits of the material cited by the manufacturer include the fact that it's non-allergenic, recyclable, and versatile; the materials can be colored, translucent, or clear. The materials have no carbamates nor potentially hazardous extractables; they reportedly exhibit good low-temperature flexibility.
