Plastic closures giant Bericap told PlasticsToday the company may eventually open a small subsidiary of Bericap Singapore in Vietnam.

In Vietnam, the plastic closure market for beverages continues to grow each year in a range of 10%, according to the spokesperson. While several types of sauces are produced in Vietnam, many feature an older closure model.

"Bericap can offer interesting closure concepts for this market," the spokesperson stated. "There is a sound potential of old fashioned closure types to be converted into modern looking light weight closures."

Bericap will showcase its closures offerings at ProPak Vietnam, a tradeshow and conference packaging event, taking place Feb. 29 to March 2 in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. This marks the first time Bericap has participated in this conference.

With Vietnam's forecasted economic growth of 7.5-8.5% in 2011, it is expected that the country will experience the same growth rate in 2012, according to a ProPak news release. The food and beverage production sector has grown over 12% since last year and accounted for the largest proportion of HCM city's industrial production value. Vietnam's brewing and beer market is also set to increase by 15% this year.

"Vietnam is an interesting market," said the Bericap spokesperson. "The GDP is growing year on year in a growing economy, as does the individual purchasing power. At Propak Vietnam, Bericap, as a global leading supplier of beverages closures, but also providing closure solutions for other market segments such as edible oil, sauces and dressings, automotive or chemical products. We want to present our closure solutions to attract new customers in Vietnam."

The company is managed from Budenheim in Germany, employs close to 2600 employees and now operates 21 production sites in 19 countries.

Bericap's current production sites in Asia are located in China, India, Singapore, and Kazakhstan.
