SPE cancels thermoforming conference

The Society of Plastics Engineers (SPE; Bethel, CT) Thermoforming Division today announced the cancellation of the 26th annual SPE Thermoforming Conference, which had been scheduled for September 11 to 13 in Orlando, FL.

Division chair Bret Joslyn has released the following statement:

As Hurricane Irma continues to make its way toward the United States, we recognize the serious threat that the storm poses to the state of Florida, its residents and surrounding areas in the storm’s projected forward path.

The safety of our attendees is of paramount concern to the SPE Thermoforming Division. Hurricane Irma poses this threat, and as a result, we announce the cancellation of the 2017 SPE Thermoforming Conference in Orlando, scheduled for next week.

We understand that our attendees, sponsors and exhibitors have many questions and are seeking answers relating to the conference. We have already received inquiries pertaining to the rescheduling of the event and to refunds. Our leadership team is currently reviewing all options to address these questions and concerns. We expect to have another update to address these questions by close of business this Friday, Sept. 8.

If you made a hotel reservation within the SPE Thermoforming Division’s official conference room block at the Renaissance Orlando at SeaWorld Hotel, the Hotel will automatically cancel your reservation.

Our friends who are in Hurricane Irma’s path, and especially those who are in Florida, will remain in our thoughts over the next several days.
