Constance, Germany–based Motan Group, a supplier of material-handling systems for injection molding, blow molding, extrusion, and compounding, has acquired all shares of Bolder Automation GmbH. The company, based in Limburg, Germany, is specialized in measurement and control systems for plastics processing, with a particular emphasis on extrusion and blow molding lines.

Bolder Automation was founded in 1993 by Dr Georg Bolder, who has managed the company since that time. Its forte is in customer- and process-specific solutions. “For this purpose, we use measurement and control technology on the extrusion lines and integrate material conveying, dryers, and dosing and mixing systems,” explained Bolder. “For OEM customers, the control and operation of these process parts is transferred to the complete extrusion line. Processors benefit from a holistic solution when modernizing their lines.”

Bolder has collaborated with Motan in various development and customer projects since 2001. With the takeover of Bolder, Motan's Managing Director Sandra Füllsack said that she expects to see a number of positive effects. "Over the past decades, Bolder has built up process technology knowledge and an excellent reputation in the industry. In addition, the employees know Motan's products very well from previous projects. This gives the Motan Group much better access to the international extrusion world, and Bolder can utilise Motan's international sales network," said Füllsack.

The modular control technology developed by Bolder makes it possible to network and precisely control material conveying and dosing and mixing systems from various manufacturers with different extruder types. The proximity of Bolder and Motan's Technical Center in Friedrichsdorf provides the Bolder team with access to advanced testing and development facilities.

"Customer inquiries for raw material handling systems are becoming more and more [specific],” explained Füllsack. “This applies to injection molding, but especially to extrusion, which is where we are bringing additional expertise in house."

Dr Bolder will lead the company as managing director through Aug. 31, 2021, and will act in an advisory capacity until the end of the year.
