Bauer’s newest hockey stick gets cutting-edge carbon fiber technology

Bauer Hockey has introduced its latest stick, the SUPREME 1S which, like previous models, has been custom engineered for enhanced performance using carbon fiber technology called TeXtreme. TeXtreme carbon fiber fabrics help reduce the weight while, at the same time, increase the durability and strength of the stick.

Bauer-Hockey.jpgMade by Oxeon, a Swedish company specialized in tape weaving technologies and tape woven materials for the composite industry, TeXtreme is a composite material technology using carbon fiber yarns that are first spread into tapes and then woven. Spreading ‘tows,’ or yarns, into very thin unidirectional tapes allows reinforcements in woven structure and weight savings that cannot be achieved with conventional reinforcements.

The Spread Tow UD tapes produced are much thinner than conventional carbon fiber tapes and have more material packed in the same area, enhancing mechanical performance. TeXtreme Technology has penetrated sports applications varying from Formula 1 racing, the Americas Cup, and cycling to golf shafts, tennis, surf boards, rowing boats, skis, snowboards, NASCAR and various industrial and advanced aerospace applications.

Bauer Hockey is a leading ice hockey gear brand—more than 400 NHL players use its sticks, said the company - which uses TeXtreme Technology in all of the three of its product families, to reduce weight, improve the mechanical performance and for the superior surface smoothness, which reduces the need for finishing compared to other carbon fiber materials.

“TeXtreme helps us maximize playability and integrate innovative designs and features we develop,” said Craig Desjardins, GM Hockey for Bauer Hockey.

These include the use of eLASTech Technology, which reinforces the TeXtreme carbon fibers with micro nanotubes, helping to prevent cracks from slashes growing, as well as extending the pop life of the stick.  And, like its predecessor, the MX3, the 1S also boasts a Power Sense Core 2 blade which integrates SENSE layer materials with the TeXtreme carbon fiber to create a well-balanced and lightweight blade, while maintaining key dampening attributes.

But what most hockey players will appreciate most: the SUPREME 1S features a new design with a higher kick point, for maximum energy transfer—and a more powerful shot.
