PSI-Polymer triples space with building purchase, expands global sales reach

PSI-Polymer Systems Inc. (Conover, NC) will be able to expand its service offering and inventory with a new facility that triples its total floorspace. PSI, which supplies polymer-filtration equipment, gear pumps, static mixers, divert valves, and extrusion, polymer processing, and recycling systems, says the purchase of the 45,000-ft2 site has allowed it to add machine tools and boost capacity for its growing repair/rebuild program, as well as augment new component manufacturing.

According to Rob Martin, PSI’s general manager, “Customers are looking to keep their existing auxiliary equipment running and in good condition, and that has become an important part of our business.” At NPE2009, Martin told Modern Plastics that its aftermarket-service business grew at a 50% rate in 2008, year over year.

Martin believes an investment now in a down market will make PSI ready for the eventual upturn. “We feel like if we can take care of this now, when there’s a rebound, we’ll be well positioned to grow.” In addition to purchasing the building, PSI has expanded its global reach in the last year, with company president Glenn Woodcock traveling extensively and PSI contracting sales representatives in Japan, Korea, China, Europe, and South America in the last 12 months. Among other technologies, PSI used NPE2009 to promote its new continuous back flush screen changer, for which it has applied for multiple patents.

PSI believes one program that will benefit from the new building is its Pump Exchange Program where customers send in their used gear pumps for credit towards a new PSI pump. PSI’s repair/rebuild programs for gear pumps, screen changers, and static mixers includes refurbishment of competitive brands. —[email protected]
