The CAM software market grew by 5.2% in 2008, according to CIMdata’s estimate, but the growth rate is expected to slow considerably in 2009. The company tracks about 50 CAM vendors and ranks 20-30, depending on the category. Dassault Systèmes led the pack in vendor revenues received and end-user payments, followed by Siemens PLM Software. Illustrating the fragmented nature of the market, the two companies’ combined market share is 28.2%
Delcam, which is listed as the largest specialist supplier, was in third place, for the first time passing PTC. Delcam was also the fourth-fastest-growing supplier in 2008, and CIMdata expects it to be among the five fastest-growing in 2009. Other fast-growing companies in 2009 are expected to be Spring Technologies, Geometric Technologies, SolidCAM, and Open Mind Technologies.
