Clarity, low shrink temperature featured in film packaging

Processor Sealed Air Corp. has succeeded in creating an easy shrink film with low shrinkage force at temperatures as low as 150°F (66°C) without compromising strength. Competitive films typically have a shrink range starting at 220°F (104°C). The multilayer structure of the Cryovac Xenith3 film includes layers of cyclic olefin copolymer (COC) from this resin producer. Tear strength, depending on thickness, varies from 30 g/mil to >9 g/mil. This should allow packagers to use thinner films without sacrificing packaging performance, says Brendan Thomas, VP marketing at Sealed Air.
