Machinery suppliers Arburg (Lossburg, Germany) and Milacron (Cincinnati, OH) were among first-time exhibitors at this week's Arabplast event held at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Center (Dubai, United Arab Emirates), with both companies seeing growth in the region as demand in other locales stagnates or contracts. Milacron said the Jan. 10-13 event was its first major show in the Mideast, with the company growing sales and shipments in the region across its processing machinery range, including injection, blowmolding, and extrusion systems.

Packaging in particular has driven growth in injection and blowmolding machines, according to Fadi Abdal, Milacron's international sales manager for the Middle East and Africa. Abdal is based from Batavia, OH, but the company has an office in Ahmedabad, India, which also serves the Middle East.

Construction growth in the region also generated interest in pipe extrusion, according to Milacron, which planned to showcase large-diameter polyethylene pipe as well as polyvinyl chloride and CPVC pipes and wood/natural fiber composite profiles.

Competing injection molding machine supplier Arburg was a first-time exhibitor as well, displaying an all-electric Allrounder 570 A, running precision medical barrels from a 48-cavity mold. In a press release, Helmut Heinson, managing director sales at Arburg, said,"The Arabian market is a growth region in which Arburg would like to position itself even more strongly in future." Arburg emphasized precision with the machine and application on display, creating parts that weighed 3.23g in a 12-second cycle. To meet that output level, the 2000-kN press was equipped with a high-performance plasticizing cylinder. Arburg maintains representatives in Morocco, Egypt, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Israel, Iran, and Kuwait. The company also plans to open an office in Dubai in the next few weeks; the search for appropriate office space is ongoing, an Arburg representative told MPW.—[email protected]
