Injection molding: With orders rolling in, Plastican adds to its mold stable

Despite two years most plastics processors would rather forget, custom injection molder Plastican Inc. says its level of capital investment stands at a level on par with any its ever had. "In spite of the economic conditions of the past 2 years, Plastican's level of capital investment is at historically high levels," wrote Lisa Merritt, the company's marketing manager, in answer to questions from MPW, with that investment in both established and new products.

The privately held processor, headquartered in Leominster, MA, reports it has bought injection molds for rigid plastic pails and lids for these. Merritt said the investment is for new 5-gallon pail and cover molds that will add significant new capacity at multiple Plastican facilities. The new molds are expected to be in service in the second half of the year, she added. Plastican runs four facilities, with one each in Dallas, TX; Macon, GA and Phoenix, AZ, in addition to its Leominster facility.

Plastican's containers are sold for a wide variety of products, including paints, foods, construction supplies, janitorial supplies, lubricants, specialty chemicals, swimming-pool chemicals, and pet-care products.
