Melt filters help protect molds

Use of reground or reprocessed resins is common practice at many molding facilities, but it can cause melt channel clogging. A new melt filter that fits into a mold?s sprue bushing is designed to prevent contaminants from entering the mold. The filter cartridges are compatible with most common molding machine nozzles, and their design reportedly makes them easy to install, clean, and maintain. Using a barrier principle, the filter allows resin to flow along approximately 80 percent of its length through a system of grooves that act to trap contaminants. The filters come in three sizes: .35, .45, and .5 mm.
