Low-carbon mold steel

A new mold-quality steel for plastic injection molding promises improved machinability, more reliable welding, and better finish characteristics. Released by Precision-Marshall Steel Co., the Marshalloy SP300 has a low carbon content and small amounts of certain alloys. The finer microstructure creates a homogenous structure, reportedly making it preferable to P-20 and other conventional mold steels. SP300 replaces Marshalloy MQ in the company?s line of tool steels and alloy plate products. It is available as bars cut from a plate or in full plates with thicknesses ranging from 1/4 to 8 inches.
