JEC Europe 2014: Dow to showcase composite system developments

A combination of Dow's epoxy and polyurethane chemistry and carbon fiber and derivatives technology at its joint venture DowAksa (Istanbul, Turkey) reportedly enable efficient fabrication of stronger, lightweight and more durable composites. To find out more, visit stand K 19/25, hall 7.3 at the JEC Europe 2014 Composites Exhibition in Paris, March 11-13.

On display at JEC is a demonstration of Dow Automotive's concept of 'Mass Reduction for Mass Production' with the launch of the new Dow Voraforce 5300 epoxy resin matrix system for high-pressure resin transfer molding (RTM) or variants of this process. "This novel formulation enables ultra-fast curing, while its super low viscosity increases part consolidation potential in structural automotive composite production," says Peter Cate, Strategic Marketing Manager for Composites at Dow Automotive (Auburn Hills, MI). "With this new system we can meet the demand of automotive OEMs to achieve affordable lightweighting in true high volume vehicle production."

Epoxy resin matrix system for high-pressure resin transfer molding enables ultra-fast curing, delivers part consolidation potential.

Further, Dow's composites portfolio will expand with the introduction of a new Dow Voraforce TW 1100 series of polyurethane systems developed for filament winding fabrication. "This new series allows for continuous reinforcement and manufacture of cylindrical structures found in power and transmission poles," explains Francesca Pignagnoli, Market Manager Industrial Composites at Dow, "Made to perform in demanding production environments, this new series with polyurethane resins rounds up the existing Dow Voraforce TW 100 offering for filament winding of pressure vessels, pipes and rolls."

In their JEC Technical Sales Forum presentation, Dow Voraforce Epoxy and Polyurethane Systems Solutions for Filament Winding Composites, on March 11 - 2.30 pm, and March 12 - 10.30 am, Paolo Diena, R&D team Specialist Engineer at Dow, and Francesca Pignagnoli will elaborate on this topic.

Dow will also present a further development of its Airstone adhesive family to wind energy customers. When producing long and durable wind blades, designers and manufacturers will be able to use the new Dow Airstone 87 system, a series of high-elongation adhesives from the Dow portfolio for more affordable wind energy.
