Currier Plastics Inc. has purchased a 75,000-square-foot facility near its headquarters in Auburn, NY, to accommodate growing demand in the healthcare market. Currier supplies custom injection and blow molded plastic consumables to medical device OEMs as well as the personal care, food & beverage, telecommunications, packaging, and hospitality sectors.
Formerly an automotive plant, the building will provide an additional 25,000 square feet of ISO Class 8 cleanroom space to expand capacity for the production of plastic consumables, driven primarily by changes in the in vitro diagnostics, point-of-care, and life science markets, said Currier. Plans also include expansion of its quality and R&D capabilities.
The focus on manufacturing for the healthcare sector and emphasis on quality also led to the recent hiring of Patrick Torres as Quality Manager, effective June 1, 2022. Prior to joining Currier, Torres was Global Director of Quality of the Industrial Process Division at ITT, where he earned certification as a Six Sigma Black Belt and ISO 9001 Lead Auditor.
Commenting on the purchase of the building, VP of Business Development Ron Ringleben said, “Currier has become a leading provider for complex, precise consumables in several healthcare markets. This expansion will give us the place to grow more incredibly strong valuable partnerships.”
“While the focus of the new facility is driven by the demand in the healthcare space,” added Sales and Marketing Manager Rob Knapp, “this new facility will allow us to continue to support our key customers in other spaces like general packaging and amenities.”
Completion of the building is expected in Q1 of 2023.
