Medical outsourcing firm acquires plastics processor Ansamed

Medical device outsourcing company Vention Medical, based in Marlborough, MA, this week announced its acquisition of Ansamed, a plastics processor and manufacturer based in Ireland. The purchase gives Vention a bigger footprint in the market for advanced medical tubing extrusion and a strategic European presence. Last year Vention acquired Advanced Polymers, another processor known for its expertise in extrusion of heat shrink tubing and specialized catheter designs.

Vention is the former MedTech Holdings Inc.; it changed its name early this year. Ansamed's extrusion capabilities include multilayer, co-extrusion and multi-lumen extrusion, all in a Class 100,000 cleanroom, plus catheter design, development and manufacturing services. It processes many plastics including polyethylene, TPE, PUR, nylon and more. The company is based in Boyle (County Roscommon), Ireland.

Vention Medical handles outsourced manufacturing of medical devices and has in-house capabilities include product design and development, manufacturing of custom components such as medical balloons and heat-shrink tubing, plus cleanroom injection molding and device assembly. The company has six facilities in the U.S. and one each in Costa Rica, Puerto Rico and Singapore, but Ansamed is its first in Europe.

Vention says the acquisition of Ansamed will expand its capabilities in the development and manufacturing of specialty catheter-based devices such as those used in a range of interventional and surgical procedures.
