Earlier this year, Milacron generated quite a bit of attention when it completed the acquisition of Mold-Masters, a deal originally announced February 12. With that acquisition, Milacron's combined enterprise featured: Milacron Plastics Machinery (injection, structural foam, extrusion, and blowmolding machines); Mold-Masters (hot runners); DME Company (mold technologies); Aftermarket (parts and service); and CIMCOOL Fluid Technology (metalworking fluids and services).

Milacron talks growing its extrusion business; West Coast expansion

And now, with the acquisition of American Extrusion Services (AES), the company will add an expansion of its extrusion services to that list. AES services extrusion machines and offers extrusion parts repair.

Milacron said that the AES staff will continue to be based in its current location at Springboro, Ohio. David Allison, the president and owner of AES, will serve as director of extrusion services at Milacron. Allison will be responsible for unifying, standardizing and growing the gearbox repair business across the different business units within the Aftermarket division of Milacron.

"Milacron acquired AES to give us an enhanced offering to our customers, such as quick and effective extrusion machine and gearbox repair," Shawn Reilley, group VP of sales & marketing for Milacron, told PlasticsToday. "It also benefits AES in that it gives them the opportunity to reach a much broader audience and provide existing customers with enhanced quality and service."

Reilley said the capabilities acquired through AES include extruder rebuilds and upgrades, gearbox rebuilds and replacements, barrel alignment, feed screw and barrel measuring, replacement and rebuilding.

Expansion to West Coast

Milacron plans to open what it calls a High Impact Technical (HIT) Center in Irvine, CA. Milacron's (HIT) Center will offer new and existing clients customer support, including aftermarket parts, technical services, retrofit and rebuild, a show room and customer training opportunities.

Reilley said the HIT Center is scheduled to open in February 2014. Expansion to the West Coast provides a competitive advantage for Milacron in that it offers benefits to clients not only in California, but also in Arizona, Nevada, Utah, Oregon and Washington, and throughout Latin America, he said.

"This new tech center allows us to expand our reach and extend our service offerings to new and existing customers on the West Coast, while also allowing us to connect with our customers on the West Coast more frequently and drive higher customer satisfaction," he said. "This new location gives us the ability to showcase our expanded technical service capabilities to a great audience."

Leading the new technical center will be Bill White and Scott Merrill. Bill White, operations manager, has more than 27 years of plastics industry experience in diverse roles working for clients such as Port Plastics, NHBB, Landis Plastics and Silgan Plastics. Scott Merrill, western region sales manager with more than 37 years with Milacron, has traveled the world providing expertise in plastics technologies and manufacturing solutions for customers including Becton Dickinson, TE Deutsch, and Entegris.
