Nypro sells its filter products business

NP Medical, a wholly owned subsidiary of Nypro Inc. (Clinton, MA), sold its filter product business to GVS SpA  (Bologna, Italy). The acquired products are manufactured in Cayey, Puerto Rico and are marketed under the IVEX and Nutrivex brand names.

Founded in 1979, GVS develops and manufactures filtration products primarily serving the medical and automotive markets. It has 11 manufacturing plants in Italy, the UK, Brazil, China, Romania, and the United States.

"The acquisition of the IVEX and Nutrivex brands represents our continued global growth strategy focus in the healthcare market. Together with our existing line, SpeedFlow, the IVEX and Nutrivex business will allow our Group to become a world leader in the IV filter business in terms of quantity and range of products," said Massimo Scagliarini, GVS CEO.

Nypro is somewhat unusual among American medical molders in that it also has a proprietary medical device business. NP Medical has developed patented products in the intravenous (IV) fluid control-valve market.

"We have been very pleased to work with GVS. The sale of the filter business to a global filtration leader such as GVS allows NP Medical to focus on our continued growth in the high-performance IV-valve and patient-safety solutions space," said Luis J Maseda, general manager, NP Medical.

CMC Consulting consulted GVS in the transaction.
