PET drying, crystallization system saves energy

Article-PET drying, crystallization system saves energy

A patent pending design for a new gas-fired PET drying and crystallizing system, called the Economizer, reduces energy consumption by 60 to 70 percent over comparable electrically heated systems, according to the manufacturer. The system is designed primarily for installations where drying and crystallizing of PET happen simultaneously. However, certain aspects of the design can be incorporated into standalone dryers or crystallizers to offer energy savings. Even when the energy source for heating is gas-fired, the system reportedly reduces energy consumption by an additional 28 to 35 percent.

The system uses waste heat as an energy source for certain process-gas streams. An FEA insulation system also helps make the energy savings possible. Although the most dramatic savings are realized on large, high-temperature applications, energy savings are also realized on smaller systems and those running materials at temperatures between 250 and 300F. Systems can now be ordered with the Economizer option. Pricing information was not provided.
