Gerd Liebig is back at Demag with a new role

Sumitomo (SHI) Demag has announced the appointment of Gerd Liebig as the group's new Chief Sales Officer (CSO). Although the job is new, the territory is not: Liebig is returning to the Schwaig, Germany-based machinery manufacturer where he had previously worked for 15 years, after an eight-year stint with Austrian injection molding machinery group Engel, where he worked as head of marketing.

Gerd Liebig is back at Demag with a new role

Sumitomo (SHI) Demag has announced the appointment of Gerd Liebig as the group's new Chief Sales Officer (CSO). Although the job is new, the territory is not: Liebig is returning to the Schwaig, Germany-based machinery manufacturer where he had previously worked for 15 years, after an eight-year stint with Austrian injection molding machinery group Engel, where he worked as head of marketing.

Boasting over 25 years of experience  n the plastic machinery business, Liebig, who is 53, will take over the full responsibility of all worldwide sales, after sales and marketing activities out of the company's headquarters in Schwaig from April 1st, 2015. He will also lead the worldwide sales subsidiaries and representatives.

2015-GerdLiebigneu.jpegIn his new position Gerd Liebig will work hand in hand with Tetsuya Okamura (Chief Executive Officer of Sumitomo (SHI) Demag and Senior Vice President of Sumitomo Heavy Industries Ltd. Japan) and Andreas Schramm (Chief Technical Officer) to  continue to drive Sumitomo (SHI) Demag into a future position of global market leadership in the injection molding business.

Sumitomo (SHI) Demag has shaped the development of the plastics industry from its very beginning. Today, with four facilities in Japan, Germany and China and over than 3,000 employees, the company is a force to be reckoned with in the plastics machinery world.

The product portfolio includes all-electric, hydraulic and hybrid injection molding machines with clamping forces of between 180 and 20,000 kN. With more than 115,000 installed machines, Sumitomo (SHI) Demag is present in the most important global markets.

The Germany-based facilities in Schwaig and Wiehe specialize in the production of Systec machines with hybrid drives we well as in the production of hybrid high-performance and high-speed El-Exis SP and SP Systec machines. IntElect machines with electric drives for the international market are also produced in Germany.

At Sumitomo's headquarters in Chiba, Japan, the company manufactures machines with clamping forces in the small to medium range. Nearly 95% of all delivered machines are equipped with on all-electric drive concept.

Sumitomo (SHI) Demag operates at the former Demag facility in Ningbo / China, which came on-stream in 1998. In 2007, the Chinese subsidiary of Demag Plastics Machinery (Ningbo) Co., Ltd. started operations at a local facility with a production area of 11,000 square meters. Demag Plastics Machinery (Ningbo) Co., Ltd. is planning to expand its production capacities in Ningbo (Zhejian province). By mid-2015, the production will be stepped up from the current output rate of 650 to an annual production capacity of 1,000 injection molding machines.
