GPEC weighs new dates, venue

The Society of Plastics Engineers (SPE) Environmental Division is weighing a change of venue and dates for its annual Global Plastics Environmental Conference (GPEC). Held March 8-10 in Orlando this year at the Florida Hotel & Conference Center, the event drew roughly 300 attendees, according to conference chair, Mike Montpetit. That was down slightly from around 350 the previous year, when the event was also staged in Orlando but held immediately following the Plastics Recycling 2009 Conference.

Due to the upcoming shift in the Society of the Plastic Industry's triennial NPE event, which will next occur in Orlando in the Spring of 2012, Montpetit said the Environmental Division has decided to change the timing of the next GPEC conference to the fall and is currently considering different locations in the October 15-19 timeframe for 2011.

Montpetit said the division in interested in tying the conference with a relevant facility tour, and with that in mind, is considering the cities of Atlanta, Schaumburg, IL; Scottsdale, AZ; and the San Francisco/Oakland area. The division is also considering putting together a track for the Plastics Recycling 2011 Conference, to be held in New Orleans. —[email protected]
