Invista now offers R-PET-filled sheet, rollstock

One of the world’s largest suppliers of polyethylene terephthalate (PET), Invista, now offers thermoformers a product that contains up to 25% of post-consumer recyclate (PCR) PET. Calling the new product Performa-R, the supplier says the R-PET content has no affect on the material’s color, clarity, and processability.

“The uniqueness of Performa-R PET film and sheet products is really the remarkable clarity—it looks and performs like amorphous PET,” said Clarissa Schroeder, sales manager for Invista’s film and sheet business, in a statement. “There are other post-consumer grade PET products out there, but they can contain imperfections, like dirt or other foreign particulates that can come with recycled materials.” She says the Invista material is stripped of any impurities during polymerization. Schroeder told MPW that the sheet is extruded by Invista at its own facility in Spartanburg, SC. Performa-R is available as cut sheets and custom rolls. More information on the material is available via the website.—[email protected]
