Specific products covered by this agreement include Hydral 710, Hydral PGA, and SpaceRite grades. Jerry Bertram, HEM VP and general manager said the Almatis products further strengthen HEM's non-halogen FR products. "Along with HEM's recent acquisition of the Kemgard flame retardant and smoke suppressant business, we now have an extensive line of environmentally-friendly products for a variety of applications."

Bertram noted that HEM will continue supplying former Almatis customers with their accustomed products, which now will be backed by HEM's technical service and support capabilities. HEM for more than 30 years has supplied alumina trihydrate (ATH), magnesium hydroxide (MDH), and molybdate-based products, and also provides technical expertise for end-use applications such as carpet backing, fiber reinforced plastics, roofing, silicone rubber and wire and cable.

The Almatis Group, headquartered in Frankfurt, Germany, is a global supplier of premium specialty alumina products with nearly 900 employees and nine production facilities worldwide, and until 2004 was known as the chemical business of Alcoa. Almatis hydrate flame retardants are made in its Dalton, GA factory. Almatis Inc. emerged from Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on October 1, 2010.
