McCalmont takes over PTP’s three facilities

Injection molder Premier Technical Plastics Inc.'s (PTP) three facilities in the U.S. are under new ownership following a management buyout led by Jim McCalmont, who had been president of PTP. The seller was global shipping power A. P. Moller - Maersk Group, which last December sold all of the operations of processor Rosti Technical Plastics (Larkhall, Scotland) outside the U.S.

McCalmont takes over PTP’s three facilities

McCalmont Industries LLC, fully owned by McCalmont, is the name of the new owner. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

PTP runs injection molding facilities in Dallas, TX; Searcy, AK; and Minden, LA, with about 70 presses split fairly evenly between the three, in clamp forces from 28 tons to 1500 tons. The buyer of the Rosti plastics processing operations in Europe, Nordstjernan AB, had had an option to acquire PTP in the United States but waived it. "After Nordstjernan recently waived its option to acquire the U.S. factories as well, we swiftly entered into negotiations with management aiming at an MBO agreement," says Stig Hoffmeyer, senior VP of A. P. Moller - Maersk. Management was happy to have the opportunity, says McCalmont: "Returning to the U.S. businesses over 18 months ago to manage it through the impending recession, I was impressed to find an efficient, well capitalized operation that has greatly benefited from its more than thirteen year association with A. P. Moller -Maersk."
