Toray Industries (Tokyo) has set up an automotive center within an existing research facility in China to showcase its solutions for the sector. Automotive Center (China) (AMCC) is located within Toray Fibers & Textiles Research Laboratories (China) in the city of Nantong, Jiangsu Province.

Toray wants to showcase its automotive materials to Western automakers in China through a dedicated center.

The primary role of AMCC will be to promote the company's advanced materials including plastics, films carbon fiber, electronic materials and textiles to foreign-invested automakers in China, particularly those from Europe and the U.S. where Toray to date has played a limited role in supplying. Future plans call for AMC to take on a prototyping and product testing role for automotive materials.

The market for automobiles in China exceeded 18 million units in 2010, making it the world's largest market. Foreign automakers from Japan, South Korea, Europe and the U.S. are competing for this growing market pie alongside local Chinese companies.-[email protected]
