Solo Cup given Keep America Beautiful award

The award honors the contributions of KAB's most dedicated sponsor for their support of the organization, its affiliates, and its mission. Gail Cunningham, KAB senior VP, said, "We're grateful for Solo's generous support of Keep America Beautiful and its Great American Cleanup, and to the Solo team for its continued partnership with the organization, our network and our communities."

Solo employees recently participated in KAB's 2010 Great American Cleanup, a nationwide volunteer effort to help create cleaner, greener and safer communities. The employee volunteers are part of the Solo Sustainability Action Network, a group of nearly 400 Solo employees who volunteer time to help promote a positive environmental future. In addition to employee participation, Solo donated Bare by Solo cups and plates—made with renewable and recycled materials—to Keep America Beautiful affiliates across the country.

Solo introduced its Bare (Bringing Alternative Resources for the Environment) line in 2008 as the foodservice industry's first single-use packaging brand made using recycled, recyclable, compostable or renewable materials. In 2009 Solo expanded the Bare line, adding compostable plates, bowls, and takeout containers made with renewable sugarcane; deli containers made with 20% recycled plastic; compostable paper plates and bowls; a bio-based plastic cup; a compostable paper cold cup; and a compostable PLA-lined paper hot cup made from 100% renewable resources.
