EcoStrate, a Washington DC-based company that according to its website is specialized in "100% post consumer content products," has developed a patent-pending economically viable process that reduces and eliminates many steps in the traditional plastics recycling process. The company currently produces indoor and outdoor signage, mud flaps, and flooring derived from plastic waste varying from computer carcasses to vinyl flooring to textiles, including carpet, but is also exploring other applications, including ballistics testing, flooring, shipping crates, pallets and building materials. EcoStrate thus actively works to divert these waste raw materials from landfills into its recycling plants and into a final, 100% post-consumer recycled product.
Under the new agreement, DuPont and EcoStrateSFS will work together to develop and commercialize products using recovered post-consumer carpet made with DuPont Sorona fiber.
According to John Lyons, global business development manager for DuPont Sorona, post-industrial recycling of the material has been practiced for years, but: "We also have focused on identifying post-consumer recycling solutions for carpet made with DuPont Sorona," he said.
"We believe that EcoStrate has an innovative program and our collaboration will be a benefit to both the carpet and recycling industries. With end of carpet life options in place, consumers and specifiers of carpet made with Sorona will feel even better about their choice of carpets."
EcoStrate CEO Ron Sherga said his company was "extremely honored to be accepted as part of the visionary leadership that DuPont continues to provide around the world, particularly in creating solutions that deal with responsible end of life of products or materials."
"Our association with DuPont adds tremendous value to our message, vision and future growth," he concluded.
