Film extrusion: Excelsior orders additional printing capacity

Plastics and paper processor/converter Excelsior Packaging Group Inc. is continuing its expansion ways, this time purchasing three FP 36S-10 printing presses from Fischer & Krecke GmbH, a part of the Bobst Group of firms manufacturing flexible-packaging conversion equipment. The new lines include the machine manufacturer’s smartGPS (Graphic Positioning System), said to enable instant job start-up with the least impression and registration related set-up required.

The FP 36S-10 for high-volume production.

According to Fischer & Krecke, smartGPS is very novel in that it does not perform the set-up in the press, but rather is able to do the job offline at the plate mounting stage, so that almost no additional time is needed once the plates are mounted on the press. The print setting is finalized before the job even enters the press, so that once sleeves are put in the press, the machine can immediately be accelerated to production speed and print with the correct impression and register.

Last year the processor of flexible plastics and paper products purchased a 3-layer and a 5-layer Varex blown-film extrusion line as well as a second Novoflex CM 10 flexo printing press from extruder and printing press manufacturer Windmöller & Hölscher (Lincoln, RI). —[email protected]
