Plastic bottles must be tossed into various recycling bins despite distracting animals, flashing cameras and tricky breezes, with each successful toss converted into the number of recycled t-shirts, sweaters and sleeping bags that can be made from recycled plastics. That is how the American Chemistry Council's (ACC) Plastics Make it Possible public awareness initiative describes its new app, Bin It!, which was launched to coincide with America Recycles Day on Nov. 15.
"We're always looking for creative ways to increase recycling awareness and participation, not only on America Recycles Day but every day," explained Steve Russell, VP, Plastics Division of the ACC. "We hope people play Bin It! and then remember to "bin it" at home, on the road, at the office, at ball games ... everywhere."

Fully 94% of Americans have access to a plastics recycling program, and the ACC hopes the game will get pe ople thinking about recycling more than plastic bottles, increasing awareness of reclaiming other plastic containers like yogurt cups and butter tubs. The ACC points out that many grocery and retail chains - more than 12,000 locations nationwide - now offer bins to collect plastic bags and wraps for recycling.
