Lip automatically corrects gauge for three-layer film

A new three-layer blown film system will debut at NPE in June. The I-Flex makes three-layer blown film specifically for laminating and converting. An Auto-Gauge control lip automatically adjusts the film gauge on the I-Flex system.

To correct the gauge, the control-lip software tells mechanical actuators to distort the die lip by pushing or pulling at one of the actuator locations. One actuator/inch of die-lip circumference corrects gauge at specific locations, on average. With polyethylene-based lamination film from 30 to 150 µm, processors can realize two to three percent Sigma gauge variation, the company says. The control lip is also available on all BE Streamlined coextrusion dies for one- to 10-layer systems.

Also available on the I-Flex, are feedscrews with upgraded mixing capabilities, and for handling tacky film, no-stick options for the system?s bubble cage and the collapsing frame. The I-flex also handles high- and low-modulus films.

The Eliminator air ring used in the system is designed to improve cooling, increase output, and enhance roll geometry. I-Flex also uses 4+1 internal bubble cooling for uniform airflow, and a vertical oscillating haul-off for uniform gauge distribution and roll geometry. Spread rollers between the primary nip and the winder remove wrinkles in the sheet. The Italycs Integrated Temperature and Line Yield Control System is used for control and recipe storage.
