Shuttle table automates PET preform handling

Overhandling of PET preforms can lead to blemishes or other flaws that diminish quality. Designed to combat this problem is a new index shuttle table. This high-volume system transfers preforms during the postmold cooling process to help maintain preform integrity. The shuttle system moves preforms from the molding area to a transfer table for cooling and then to a removal robot. Touch marks, body deformation, scratches, and other damage caused by conventional handling systems are reportedly significantly reduced. Using the shuttle table accelerates preform cooling and can reduce overall cycle time by making additional cooling devices unnecessary. The table also keeps the preforms oriented for other secondary operations including gate cutting, thread recrystallization, and bottle blowing.
