Filled, unfilled PPAs resist automotive wear, chemicals

For resisting moisture in diesel fuel delivery components, BP Amoco Polymers has introduced a new unfilled, toughened grade of polyphthalamide (PPA). Amodel AT-1002 has been designed for long-term use in humid environments and also resists Bio-Diesel and regular diesel fuels. The manufacturer reports that its ductility, friction, and wear properties make it suitable for snapfit connectors and other high-wear applications.

A second PPA offering from BP Amoco is reinforced with 15 percent glass fiber and, like its unfilled cousin, may be used in fuel delivery components, high-friction mechanical applications, and connectors requiring good ductility. Automotive electronic connectors requiring ductility for terminal locking and high-use latch features are another target application for Amodel AT-6115 HS. A 30 percent glass-filled formulation is also available. Price for both AT-1002 and AT-6115 ranges from $2.99 to $3.26/lb, depending on quantity.
