New molding machines for sale on Internet

Demag Ergotech has entered a strategic partnership with business-to-business website portax.com and is believed to have become the first machine builder to sell new injection molding machines direct to molders via the Internet. In January the company began selling a special line of Demag machines called the e@se Series. Based on Demag’s established Viva line, the e@se machines are offered in five clamp forces ranging from 250 to 1000 kN (27.5 to 110 U.S. tons) with no technical add-ons and only a few options. Offered with a full-service package, the machines are delivered within four weeks of order and, according to Demag, are competitively priced. (Prices had not been announced as IMM went to print.) Initially, this line and sales program are being offered only in Europe, but according to Demag Marketing Manager Gerd Liebig, Demag intends to expand the program to other regions, and North America would likely be the first. Besides giving molders rapid delivery of reasonably priced machines, Demag sees benefits for itself that include accelerated order processing, faster manufacturing cycles, and lower administration costs.
