Masterbatch workshop draws a healthy crowd

Lectures, machine demos and more: extruder manufacturer Leistritz’s ninth international masterbatch workshop, held early this week, drew more than 150 attendees eager to learn more about “the grain of difference.” The event, held at the company’s headquarters in Nuremberg, Germany, drew from experts across the industry.
Leistritz drew a crowd, again, this time to its ninth masterbatch workshop.For example, supplier BASF’s Mario Dittes, in charge of technical customer service for coloring of plastics, spoke about the quality criteria when producing effect pigment masterbatches. Clariant Germany’s Hermann Diem reported on how his company’s Licocene polyolefin-based waxes are used as dispersing agents and as independent carriers for highly filled pigment masterbatches.
“We are very glad about the enormous feedback, especially if one considers the difficult times the market had to face this year,” noted Hubertus Schulte, CEO at Leistritz. Schulte’s colleague Alexander Koschmieder teamed with Gerd Wehnert, a professor at the Georg-Simon-Ohm University in Nuremberg, to present their study on residence time and its effects on material. The study was completed by comparing the manufacturer’s ZSE MAXX and ZSE HP series extruders, using various screw geometries. —[email protected]
