Quantum Plastics acquires maker of wheelchair stabilization system

Quantum Plastics LLC (Victor, IA) has announced the acquisition of Transfer Solutions, a company headquartered in Galesburg, IL, best known for a wheelchair stabilizing device.

Transfer Solutions’ Translock system assists wheelchair users in the everyday task of transferring safely from the chair to a bed or shower, for example.

Quantum Plastics had been manufacturing the devices at its Iowa facility for Transfer Solutions prior to the purchase, and the account will remain at the Iowa location. “Our history with the part will help to make a smooth transition for Transfer Solutions customers,” said Quantum Plastics General Manager, Bill Collins, in a prepared statement. “We are looking forward to reinventing the brand and marketing of this necessary and life-changing product.”

The Translock device is not Quantum's only foray into the medical market—it molds millions of parts, including vials and sponge sticks, for use in hospital settings. Quantum also serves the consumer, appliance, automotive and packaging sectors.

Quantum Plastics was created in 2014 as a holding company by Quantum Ventures of Michigan. In 2014 and 2015, it acquired Master Molded Products Corp., River Bend Industries LLC, Apollo Plastics and Hospitec USA. These facilities house more than 100 molding machines ranging from 30 to 3000 tons, according to the company. Routine mold maintenance, repairs and tool building services are also available.
