Industry Watch (Web exclusive): Tech Group Asia goes public

Tech Group Asia Ltd. began trading on the main board Oct. 20, 2003, as the new merger between Omni Mold Ltd. and Tech Group Singapore became official. As a publicly held entity, Tech Group Asia will be more than just a mold manufacturer in Singapore under Omni Mold, but a regional integrated supplier of precision plastic components and secondary services including spray painting and assembly, with operations in Singapore and China.

The new focus for Tech Group Asia will be on the Chinese manufacturing centers of the Shanghai/Suzhou region and Guangdong province. "The Shanghai/Suzhou region is an area of potential growth for us, judging from the number of requests we have received from potential customers to manufacture their products there," says Neo Age Seng, the newly-appointed CEO of Tech Group Asia. "We intend to use our current Suzhou facility as a base to grow our business there as we will be able to draw upon our resources and experience in Chi Wo in Guangdong to support our Suzhou operations during this initial start-up phase to increase our chances of success," explained Seng.

The company has a new 40,000-sq-ft facility in Zhongshan in Guangdong province, which began operations in September of this year. Additionally, it expects to commence construction of a new 460,000-sq-ft manufacturing facility in the current financial year close to its existing facility in Zhongshan.Tech Group Asia will manufacture components in the automotive, electronics and optical industries. The company also intends to begin manufacturing medical devices, an expertise of The Tech Group Inc., the company’s U.S. parent.
