American Tool & Mold expands into LSR

Toolmaker and injection molding company American Tool & Mold Inc. (ATM; Clearwater, FL) has announced plans to enter the liquid silicone rubber (LSR) tooling and molding arena, adding silicone operations in the coming month. The company has already hired Marshall Strang to act as LSR Operations Manager. In this role, Strang will oversee all LSR dealings at ATM, covering everything from assisting with sales quotations, tooling design, mold fabrication, and part production.

Phil Gaitan, ATM's director of sales and marketing said the additional capabilities will begin immediately in tooling with molding capacity starting in February 2010. The LSR machines will be installed in a clean room environment. ATM's tooling capabilities include complex multicavity molds, including thin-wall, stack, hot runner, unscrewing, and two-shot molds designs.

ATM's 150,000-ft2 facility features high-speed milling equipment, CNC palletized electrical discharge machining (EDM), wire EDM, and CNC lathes, as well as grinding, inspecting, and etching equipment. The company has plate machining capacity up to 48 by 70 inches, with annual mold production of around 200 tools. On-site mold testing is available, utilizing machines with up to 720 tons of clamp force and shot sizes of 130 ounces. —[email protected]
