Craig Technologies acquires its moldmaker, Linus Tooling: “Nothing we can’t make”

Craig Technologies Inc., an injection molder and plastics fabricator of precision-ground plastic balls, as used in bearings, ball transfers, check valves, spray pumps, games, and other applications, has acquired Linus Tooling Inc. Linus, based in Huntingdon Valley, PA, is a manufacturer of injection molds and machined parts. Jim Ryan, Linus Tooling president, said in a statement that the company will be relocating to Craig Technologies’ Seaford, DE location in the first quarter of 2010.

Craig Technologies acquires its moldmaker, Linus Tooling: “Nothing we can’t make”

“Linus has been our primary supplier for new injection-mold tooling, mold repairs, and custom ball-grinding tooling,” said Craig Technologies’ president, Donald Hollenbeck. “And now, with the increased business from all of our affiliates, Linus has added twin-spindle, 8-axis machining capabilities to accommodate the manufacture of specialty sight glasses, flanges, and ball valves.”
In addition to its precision ball-manufacturing activities, Craig Technologies oversees Craig Ball Sales, a provider of balls made of metal, glass, ceramic, and rubber, used in a wide variety of industrial, medical, and pharmaceutical applications.

Additionally, in 2007, the company purchased and relocated Flow Smart Inc., formerly of Wharton, NJ, a manufacturer of gaskets and other flow-control products for the biotech, pharmaceutical, and dairy industries. Last year, the group founded Global Diversified Sales LLC, a manufacturer’s-representative agency that sells for all of the affiliated companies as well as other specialized parts suppliers. With the addition of Linus Tooling and its machining capabilities, the company intends to expand its product lines to include injection molds as well as machined parts.

Linus Tooling will be housed in a 13,500-ft2 building across from Craig Technologies’ current location, which also houses the other recently acquired companies. The move is expected to create about 10 new jobs over the course of 2010.

Craig Technologies co-founder and CFO, Lee O’Hara, summed up the deal. “Now, there’s basically nothing we can’t make,” he said. —[email protected]
