Ceramic coating handles corrosive materials

Molders processing materials like PVC and CVPC know these corrosive resins can shorten a screw?s life, but the PVCStar injection molding feedscrew package uses a ceramic layer to protect against hostile resins. The manufacturer says chrome-plated screws suffer corrosion, blistering, and material burning and buildup when processing PVC and CVPC, but the PVCStar?s ceramic-coated screw reportedly protects the substrate material 20 times longer than chrome counterparts. The chlorides in plastics that can compromise plating microcracks or blister chrome coatings are resisted by the ceramic layer of PVCStar. A chemical bond with the substrate allows the ceramic coating to cover imperfections and fill small cracks. This provides a smoother screw surface and better lubricity for processing, as well as increased burn resistance and easier cleaning. The feedscrew package includes a ceramic-coated screw, a smear-head tip, and an end cap.
