Packaging and tubing supplier Tekni-Plex buys liners company Sancap

Tekni-Plex Inc. (Wayne, PA), a globally integrated supplier of packaging and tubing materials to medical device, pharmaceutical and food and beverage OEMs, has signed an agreement to acquire Sancap Liner Technology Inc. (Alliance, OH). Sancap produces heat-seal, pressure-sensitive and gasket-sealing liners for pharmaceutical and food applications. The transaction is expected to close in April.

"Sancap's heat-seal liner production capability makes this an ideal strategic acquisition for Tekni-Plex,” said David Andrulonis, Senior Vice President/General Manager, in a prepared statement. “Coupled with our existing strong technology base in foam liners, this will enable us to serve our global customers with an even broader product line. We look forward to building upon the reputation established by Sancap's late founder, Robert Stuhlmiller," added  Andrulonis.

In addition to liners, Sancap also produces high-barrier Saran laminations and coated pouch/bag structures for food, liquor, confection and chemical applications.

"Sancap's 460,000-square-foot facility also provides a footprint from which to increase future manufacturing capacity. This will enable Tekni-Plex to accommodate increasing global demand for our products," Andrulonis said.

When the transaction closes, Sancap will be the third liner business Tekni-Plex has acquired in the last 18 months. The two previous acquisitions were India-based Ghiya Extrusions and Tech-Seal (Triadelphia, WV).

Tekni-Plex offers cleanroom capabilities and manufacturing in compliance with CGMP, ISO and FDA standards. A core business is converting plastic and rubber resins into intermediate and finished products; extrusion and co-extrusion, lamination, coating, thermoforming, rubber molding, slitting and punching, and printing are among the services available.

Tekni-Plex reports global sales of $620 million and operates facilities in 10 countries. The company was created by bringing together industry leaders over the past 15 years, all of which are dominant in their respective industry segments, according to Tekni-Plex.
