When contract manufacturer Tegra Medical was acquired by Switzerland’s SFS Group AG in November 2016, it welcomed the addition of resources such as micro molding to its portfolio of services that would help it to meet demand from global medical device OEMs. A further step in that direction was revealed yesterday, when the company, based in Franklin, MA, announced that it was expanding operations in Europe and Asia.

The expansion of end-to-end manufacturing for the medical sector will encompass nine locations on three continents: Altstätten, Hallau, and Heerbrugg, Switzerland; Johor Bahru, Malaysia; and Nantong, China, with the central Asia office located in Singapore. The company also operates plants in Hernando, MS, and Heredia, Costa Rica.

“With its unparalleled expertise in making some of the industry’s most challenging products, Tegra Medical is the core of SFS Division Medical,” said Jens Breu, SFS Group CEO. “It’s in our DNA to partner closely with customers. We’re excited to be expanding globally so we can extend our local presence and be closer to the customers we partner with in Europe and Asia.”

The company’s Genesis Tech Center is part of the global expansion. The center provides prototyping, product development, and pilot production services and works in concert with the company's production, assembly, and packaging departments. Mike Treleaven’s role has been expanded to Senior Vice President Engineering and includes responsibility for tech center services worldwide, said Tegra Medical in the press release, which included news on several other senior management appointments. These include Walter Kobler, head of Division Medical and Tegra Medical CEO; Marcel Niederer, Vice President Operations; Michael Kobler, Chief Financial Officer; Walter Gacek, Senior Vice President, Sales and Marketing, Americas; and Daniel Soo, Vice President, Sales and Marketing, Asia. The head of sales and marketing for Europe has not yet been named.

“We’re excited about furthering the recent growth of Tegra Medical,” said Walter Kobler. “Earlier in 2020 we purchased a 120,000-square-foot building across the street from the Franklin, MA, headquarters and began expansions in Hernando, MS, to accommodate a new manufacturing cell and in Hallau, Switzerland, to create additional capacity for injection molding and tooling. Expanding globally is our next step in bringing medical devices to life around the world,” said Kobler.

Founded in 2007, Tegra Medical’s manufacturing capabilities include CNC milling and turning, EDM, laser processing, CNC grinding, injection molding, and assembly and packaging. It manufactures parts and devices used in arthroscopy, endoscopy, joint reconstruction, biopsies, and drug delivery.
