Ouch! Price hikes aplenty

BASF (Ludwigshafen, Germany) raised prices for different plastics in its styrenic copolymer product range in Europe and in all regions supplied from Europe, effective April 1, 2010, or as contracts allow. The price increases amount to €200/tonne for Terluran ABS, €175/tonne for Styrolux SBC and €150/tonne for Luran SAN.

DSM Engineering Plastics (Evansville, IN) increased prices in North America for Akulon polyamide 6 extrusion grades by $0.09/lb. This increase took effect as of March 30, 2010.

Ticona (Florence, KY) announced a 10% price increase in North America and South America for POM (its Hostaform and Celcon brands) and PBT (Celanex PBT, Vandar PBT, Impet PET and Riteflex TPC-ET) with that increase effective with all shipments beginning on April 15 or as contracts allow.

A 7% price increase (on average and depending on region and material grade) is planned to take effect on May 1,2010 for the Vestamid (polyamide 12), Vestotint (PA12 powder), Vestamelt hotmelt adhesives and Trogamid fiber reinforced polyamide compounds supplied by Evonik Industries AG (Marl, Germany) depending on region and product type.

Ineos Nova increases the price of its EPS products effective April 1 by €150/tonne.

Dow Europe GmbH (Horgen, Switzerland) announced a number of price increases. These include a price increase of up to $100 per tonne for its wire and cable products across India, Middle East and Africa, effective April 1, 2010. It also boosted prices for its ABS and SAN products, and for LDPE in Europe by €80/tonne. The prices for linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE) and high-density polyethylene (HDPE) were increased by €60/tonne.

Lanxess (Leverkusen, Germany)  increased prices in Europe, Middle East and Africa for its polyamide 6.6 products (Durethan A brand) by €0.35/kg.  

Altuglas Intl., a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Arkema Group and the world's leading supplier by market share of PMMA, will raise the prices of its acrylic sheets and block range sold under the brand names Altuglas and Oroglas by €130/tonne or as contracts allow for deliveries after April 12th 2010.
